On the 17th of January, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) marks the five-year anniversary of the company’s establishment in cooperation with PensionDanmark.
During the past five years, CIP has established a position as one of the largest fund managers within energy infrastructure in both a European and global context.
CIP currently has four funds under management with more than EUR 6bn in total commitments from a group of prominent Danish and international investors. The funds have so far been involved in 13 energy infrastructure projects with a total capacity of more than 3,000 MW and a total investment volume of more than EUR 9bn in Northwestern Europe and North America within offshore wind, onshore wind, biomass, solar, and transmission.
“In the Western world, we are in the middle of a paradigm shift from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources, and we are probably only seeing the beginning of an industry that has experienced record high growth in recent years”, says Jakob Baruël Poulsen, Managing Partner of CIP, and continues:
“We have, together with our institutional investors, built significant experience and skills within renewable energy investments and have been responsible for billion-euro investment volumes. The energy infrastructure sector represents a large potential for the global economy and climate. CIP is proud of having contributed to creating such a growth adventure.”
CIP typically enters projects during the development phase in order to drive or support the optimization of the most important factors determining the risk/return profile of the projects. CIP continues to be actively involved in the optimisation of the projects during construction and operations.
The five senior partners, who have extensive and practical experience in developing, structuring, financing, constructing and operating energy infrastructure projects, have built and developed the organization into a strong international team of 62 persons – most recently, three new partners and five associate partners have been appointed.
CIP’s investor base includes PensionDanmark who has been involved since the establishment of CIP:
“The establishment of CIP provided us with access to competencies and networks that makes it prudent and possible to invest large amounts in attractive but complicated assets such as offshore wind. We are very satisfied with PensionDanmark’s investments in CIP’s funds that will provide an attractive return to our members”, says Torben Möger Pedersen, CEO, PensionDanmark.
